Eight States, Separate Filings
· New York time
Eight US states have sued OpenAI over ChatGPT, alleging harm to children and misleading safety claims. The Verge, citing earlier Reuters reporting, identifies Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, West Virginia, Arkansas, Arizona, Idaho and Montana. The allegations are not judicial findings. The cases were filed separately, creating multiple legal proceedings rather than a single lawsuit with a crowded announcement. Their common target is the company's conduct and the safety of its product. OpenAI now faces questions in a setting where an agreeable conversational tone cannot finish the exchange. Court filings come with procedures, and a reassuring answer is not automatically a successful legal response. The chatbot interface may favour one tidy window; the litigation has chosen several folders.
