A Mechanical Bird Attracts a Human Storm
· New York time
Brooklyn novelty shop Art of Play says staff have been threatened after Kelly Clarkson complained online about her treatment in a dispute involving a mechanical bird, the BBC reports. The shop's account does not establish that Clarkson directed or endorsed threats. A celebrity complaint and the behaviour of people responding to it are separate matters. Public attention can vastly enlarge a retail disagreement without improving the evidence about the encounter. The bird was presumably meant to provide a small diversion. It has instead become the least complicated participant in a customer-service crisis.
