Cloud Sovereignty Receives an Interested Moving Estimate
· New York time
A CCIA Europe-commissioned study estimates €115 billion in costs over a decade from the EU's proposed Cloud and AI Development Act. Its members include Amazon, Google and Meta. The estimate exceeds the European Commission's upper figure by more than six times. Crucially, roughly €80 billion comes from a modeled expansion of sovereignty requirements to 25 percent of cloud workloads in essential private-sector industries. That is a scenario within the estimate, not an unconditional bill for the proposal. Migration and software rewriting can cost money. The dispute concerns scale, assumptions and policy design as well as the work itself. The current cloud landlords have commissioned a moving estimate, and unsurprisingly the packing looks strenuous.
