The Slate Can Grow Faster Than the Playbook
· New York time
Doing Things has more than doubled its original creator-led programming slate over the past year, Tubefilter reports, while Digiday finds microseries deal structures still taking shape. The combination points to two jobs in social entertainment: generating more work and establishing terms under which brands participate in it. Doing Things wants its portfolio to become a broader development engine. Brands interested in microseries face questions around ownership, control and margins as the format develops. A fuller production calendar does not answer those commercial questions by itself. Creative development and deal development may need to proceed together, each with its own deadlines. Entertainment has once again found a way to order more episodes while the contract is still asking who gets to keep the furniture.
