LinkedIn Finds a Way to Put a Checkout Beside “Happy to Chat”
· New York time
LinkedIn’s October 15 updates include Advice Sessions, a product for scheduling and conducting paid consultations directly in its app. It is currently available in the U.S. to subscribers to the Business Premium tier, which costs $59.99 a month. Professional influencers now have a more direct route from a post to a booked conversation. People who build audiences around professional knowledge may want to sell their time without constructing a separate booking operation. Potential clients may prefer a defined session to an indefinitely expanding exchange of messages beginning with a quick question. Public usefulness and paid access still need boundaries. A widely read post can demonstrate judgment, but it cannot establish that every reader needs a consultation. A calendar slot is a service, not proof that uncertainty has been abolished. The monthly subscription also makes this a business tool with a cost, rather than an open door for every account. Advice has always moved between generosity, networking and commerce. A dedicated product gives the transition a visible door and fewer opportunities to pretend nobody noticed the invoice. For creators, the task is to offer a specific, useful engagement rather than access alone. For everyone else, “pick your brain” now sounds less like a casual invitation and more like a request that should arrive with a duration field.
