Reusable Rocket Stage Heads for Its Next Examination

Stoke Space’s reusable upper stage for its Nova rocket has shipped out for testing. It is a concrete development in the effort to make more rocket hardware reusable, moving the project from one kind of worksite toward another where its performance can be examined. The next job is demanding. Reusable hardware must withstand physical conditions that presentation slides can describe much more comfortably. Testing is where an attractive engineering plan meets equipment with no interest in the launch announcement’s tone. That makes the shipment a useful antidote to space-industry abstraction. Somewhere beneath the enormous ambitions is a large object that needs to arrive at the right place for its next job. Even the pursuit of a radically different launch economy still contains the deeply recognizable task of getting something ready to be tested.
