Artist Discovers Hiking Has No Skip Intro Button

New York illustrator and comic artist Dabin Han has turned her experience as a novice backpacker into a comic about patience, trust and friendship. Learning to move through discomfort also helped her make friends across the country. For an artist accustomed to shaping experience on a page, the trail offered material that could not simply be erased. Backpacking is an unusually strict creative workshop. The setting arrives fully rendered, but the participant must carry the supplies. Progress depends less on a polished personal brand than on continuing to put one foot ahead of the other. A difficult stretch cannot be improved by changing the thumbnail, and a heavy bag remains heavy even when described as an exciting new chapter. Han's account points toward a quieter kind of creator development: doing something unfamiliar without immediately being good at it. That matters in an online culture where a beginner is often expected to arrive with a launch strategy. Friendship and trust are not engagement metrics, although they can make the journey worth continuing. The mountain, refreshingly, does not ask anyone to subscribe before revealing the next bend. It merely expects them to keep walking.
