Spotify Removes 50 Million Reasons to Skip
· New York time
Spotify says it removed more than 50 million tracks considered AI-generated slop or spam from user recommendations over the past year. It also says it changed recommendations to highlight more human-made music. The scale illustrates how cheap content production creates a costly sorting problem. Generating more material does not automatically help listeners discover music they want. Exclusion from recommendations is not necessarily removal from the service. The platform's challenge is to make abundance feel selective. A recommendation system earns its name by recommending, not by tipping the entire warehouse into someone's headphones and calling the result discovery.
