YouTube and Tubi Lead a Different Kind of Screen Time
· New York time
YouTube and Tubi top streamers' share of advertising exposure time in Comscore's new Score Report. The measure examines how much time audiences spend exposed to ads, offering a different view of the television and streaming market from simple viewing totals. That distinction matters because time watching a service and time available to advertisers are not interchangeable. A viewer can be highly engaged with entertainment without spending an equivalent amount of time seeing commercial messages. For buyers, the relevant inventory is where the advertising actually has room to appear. For creators, the report places advertising-supported viewing within the broader competition for household attention. Online video is not merely something people do between television programs. It participates in the same daily struggle over who gets the couch, the remote and the last uninterrupted twenty minutes. Exposure, however, is not identical to persuasion. A commercial can occupy time without occupying memory, just as a person can attend a meeting and retain only the pastry selection. The business value of the measure is a clearer account of where advertising time accumulates. Its comic value is that even leisure now has multiple clocks: one for the show, one for the ad and one for wondering where the evening went.
